Advance Fee Fraud

An advance-fee fraud is a confidence trick in which the target is persuaded to advance sums of money in the hope of realizing a significantly larger gain.Among the variations on this type of scam, are the Nigerian Letter (also called the 419 fraud, Nigerian scam, Nigerian bank scam, or Nigerian money offer the Spanish Prisoner, the Black money scam as well as Russian/Ukrainian scam (also extremely widespread, though far less popular than the former). Both the so-called Russian and Nigerian scams stand for wholly dissimilar organised crime traditions, they therefore tend to use altogether different breeds of approaches.

The 419 scam originated in the early 1980s as the oil-based Nigerian economy declined. Several unemployed university students first used this scam as a means of manipulating business visitors interested in shady deals in the Nigerian oil sector before targeting businessmen in the west, and later the wider population. Scammers in the early-to-mid 1990s targeted companies, sending scam messages via letter, fax, or Telex. The spread of email and easy access to email-harvesting software significantly lowered the cost of sending scam letters by utilizing the Internet. In the 2000s, the 419 scam has spurred imitations from other locations in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe, and, more recently, from North America, Western Europe (mainly UK), and Australia.

The number "419" refers to the article of the Nigerian Criminal Code (part of Chapter 38: "Obtaining Property by false pretences; Cheating") dealing with fraud. The American Dialect Society has traced the term "419 fraud" back to 1992.

The advance-fee fraud is similar to a much older scam known as the Spanish Prisoner scam in which the trickster would tell the scam victim that a (fictitious) rich prisoner had promised to share (non-existent) treasure with the victim if the latter would send money to bribe the prison guards.

Insa Nolte, a lecturer of University of Birmingham's African Studies Department, stated that "The availability of e-mail helped to transform a local form of fraud into one of Nigeria's most important export industries."

Embassies and other organizations warn visitors to various countries about 419. Countries in West Africa with warnings cited include Nigeria,Ghana,Benin,Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast),Togo,Senegal and Burkina Faso.Countries outside of West Africa with 419 warnings cited include South Africa, Spain, and The Netherlands.

Wire fraud is a legal concept in the United States Code which provides for enhanced penalty of any criminally fraudulent activity if it is determined that the activity involved electronic communications of any kind, at any phase of the event. As in the case of mail fraud, this statute is often used as a basis for a separate federal prosecution of what would otherwise have been only a violation of a state law.

The crime of wire fraud is codified at 18 U.S.C. § 1343, and reads as follows:

Whoever, having devised or intending to devise any scheme or artifice to defraud, or for obtaining money or property by means of false or fraudulent pretenses, representations, or promises, transmits or causes to be transmitted by means of wire, radio, or television communication in interstate or foreign commerce, any writings, signs, signals, pictures, or sounds for the purpose of executing such scheme or artifice, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both. If the violation affects a financial institution, such person shall be fined not more than $1,000,000 or imprisoned not more than 30 years, or both.
In one important case (United States v. LaMacchia (1994) -- text at eff.org), an MIT student was charged with wire fraud when he could not be charged with criminal copyright infringement (having not personally profited from the online distribution of millions of dollars worth of illegally copied software). The United States District Court, District of Massachusetts, dismissed the charges, noting they were an attempt to find a broad federal crime where the more narrowly defined one had not occurred. Congress promptly amended the copyright law to limit further use of this loophole.

The alleged misrepresentation to support a conviction under 18 U.S.C. § 1343 must be a material misrepresentation. Neder v. United States, 527 U.S. 1, 23 (1999). A misrepresentation that is capable of influencing or has a "natural tendency" of influencing a decision is material. Id. at 13.

Thus, the essential elements of the crime of wire fraud are:

(1) Devise or intend to devise a scheme or artifice to defraud another person based on a material representation; (2) With the intent to defraud; (3) through the use of interstate wire facilities (i.e. telecommunications of any kind).

See 8th Circuit Pattern Criminal Jury Instructions, 242 & 250.

A fourth element will be included where the alleged victim is a financial institution, to enhance sentencing as provided in the statute.

Pump And Dump Scheme

False and/or fraudulent information is disseminated in chat rooms, forums, internet boards and via email (spamming), with the purpose of causing a dramatic price increase in thinly traded stocks or stocks of shell companies (the "pump"). As soon as the price reaches a certain level, criminals immediately sell off their holdings of those stocks (the "dump"), realizing substantial profits before the stock price falls back to its usual low level. Any buyers of the stock who are unaware of the fraud become victims once the price falls. When they realize the fraud, it is too late to sell. They lost a high percentage of their money. Even if the stock value does increase, the stocks may be hard to sell because of lack of interested buyers, leaving the shareholder with the shares for a far longer term than desired.

Fraud In paypal Account

This is new form of fraud where a buyer (a scammer) will target ebay auctions which are "Collection in person" and will have a fake address or storage address with P.O Box (as ebay/paypal now allows un-confirmed address and these transactions are not covered by seller protection.). What they will do is buy item from you and pay with paypal and will collect in person. This person will collect item and will put paypal claim back stating he hasn't received the item. Paypal have user policy IF they don't have tracking number they will grant the money back to the scammer (Paypal does not take video evidence, signature proof or any other proof as valid collection).

It is strongly suggested if you are selling item with "collection in person" do cash transaction by handing the item and collecting cash don't fall into ebay trap by accepting paypal payment for collection in person items else the scammer will part with your money and your item!.

Ticket Fraud Of Internet

This is a fast-growing area of internet fraud perpetrated by dishonest internet marketing and retail sites. A variety of products and services are involved. The customer is tricked by a legitimate-looking site and effective marketing into giving their credit card information and CVV number, or sending cash by other means, in exchange for what they believe to be the goods or services. The goods never arrive, turn out to be fake, or are products worth less than those advertised.

Where a credit card is involved, the perpetrators may also aim to use the customer's credit card information to obtain cash or to make purchases of their own. A common example of this type of fraud are pornographic websites that advertise free access. Upon further inspection, however, a credit card is required "for age verification purposes only". The scammers then use your credit card information to make large charges to the credit card.

In cases involving fake or worthless goods, many are health products, related to health fraud. These products might advertise anything from a quick way to lose weight to a cure for a serious disease, and may:

  • promise a lot, claiming they can "do it all"
  • claim to be a "scientific breakthrough", featuring fake doctors or scientists making claims for the product, with technical jargon that only experts in the field know is used falsely
  • feature a long list of "personal testimonials", with no way to check if they are true or fake.

Once your credit card information is given to these type of scam companies, they usually will charge you no matter what type of cancellation you attempt to go through. This can often be overcome by contacting the credit card company. Credit and consumer protection laws in many countries hold the credit card company liable to refund their customers' money for goods or services purchased with the card but not delivered. The loss is then suffered by the card company, but ultimately passed on to customers in higher interest and fees.

Chinese version

This is a variant of the East European Version, in which criminals recruit people through spam. The criminals present themselves as a growing Chinese company trying to establish a presence in the U.S. or Europe and agree to pay an agent whatever the unsuspecting victim is looking to make, and more. Here is an example of a recruiting email:

Version Of East Eurapean

This is a variant of the Nigerian Version, in which criminals recruit people through classified advertising. The criminals present themselves as a growing European company trying to establish a presence in the U.S. and agree to pay whatever the job applicant is looking to make, and more. The fraudsters explain to the unsuspecting victim that they will buy certain goods in the U.S. which need to be re-shipped to a final destination in Europe. When everything is agreed they start shipping goods to the re-shipper's house. The rest is similar to the Nigerian Version. Sometimes, when the criminals send the labels to be applied to the boxes, they also include a fake cheque, as payment for the re-shipper's services. By the time the cheque bounces unpaid, the boxes have been picked up already and all communication between fraudster and re-shipper has stopped. Here's an example recruiting email received via SPAM on Oct 2, 2007:

Version Of Nigerian

In the Nigerian version, the fraudsters have armies of people actively recruiting single women from western countries through chat and matchmaking sites. At some point, the criminal promises to marry the lady and come to their home country in the near future. Using some excuse the criminal asks permission of his "future wife" to ship some goods he is going to buy before he comes. As soon as the woman accepts the fraudster uses several credit cards to buy at different Internet sites simultaneously. In many cases the correct billing address of the cardholder is used, but the shipping address is the home of the unsuspecting "future wife". Around the time when the packages arrive, the criminal invents an excuse for not coming and tells his "bride" that he urgently needs to pick up most or all the packages. Since the woman has not spent any money, she sees nothing wrong and agrees. Soon after, she receives a package delivery company package with pre-printed labels that she has agreed to apply to the boxes that she already has at home. The next day, all boxes are picked up by the package delivery company and shipped to the criminal's real address (in Nigeria or elsewhere). After that day the unsuspecting victim stops receiving communications from the "future husband" because her usefulness is over. To make matters worse, in most cases the criminals were able to create accounts with the package deliverer, based on the woman's name and address. So, a week or two later, the woman receives a huge freight bill from the shipping company which she is supposed to pay because the goods were shipped from her home. Unwittingly, the woman became the criminal re-shipper and helped him with his criminal actions.

Check Cash System

In some cases, fraudsters approach merchants and ask for large orders: $50,000 to $200,000, and agree to pay via wire transfer in advance. After brief negotiation, the buyers gives an excuse about the impossibility of sending a bank wire transfer. The buyer then offers to send a check, stating that the merchant can wait for the check to clear before shipping any goods. The check received, however, is a counterfeit of a check from a medium to large U.S. company. If asked, the buyer will claim that the check is money owed from the large company. The merchant deposits the check and it clears, so the goods are sent. Only later, when the larger company notices the check, will the merchant's account be debited.

In some cases, the fraudsters agree to the wire but ask the merchant for their bank's address. The fraudsters send the counterfeited check directly to the merchant's bank with a note asking to deposit it to the merchant's account. Unsuspecting bank officers deposit the check, and then the fraudster contacts the merchant stating that they made a direct deposit into the merchant's account.

In other cases, fraudsters approach merchants for smaller orders: $2000 to $10,000 offering to pay with a check. They send the check and the instructions state that the merchant has to deposit the check, wait for it a couple days to clear and send the "excess" funds vira Western Union money transfer to an account in another country. The fraudsters send fake

Online Fraud

There are two basic schemes in online automotive fraud:

  1. A fraudster posts a vehicle for sale on an online site, generally for luxury or sports cars advertised for thousands less than market value. The details of the vehicle, including photos and description, are typically lifted from sites such as ebay motors or Autoscout24 and re-posted elsewhere. An interested buyer, hopeful for a bargain, emails the seller, who responds saying the car is still available but is located overseas. He then instructs the buyer to send a deposit via wire transfer to initiate the "shipping" process. The unwitting buyer wires the funds, and does not discover until days or weeks later that they were scammed.
  2. A fraudster feigns interest in an actual vehicle for sale on the Internet. The "buyer" explains that a client of his is interested in the car, but due to an earlier sale that fell through has a certified check for thousands more than the asking price and requests the seller to send the balance via wire transfer. If the seller agrees to the transaction, the buyer sends the certified check via express courier (typically from Nigeria). The seller takes the check to their bank, which makes the funds available immediately. Thinking the bank has cleared the check, the seller follows through on the transaction by wiring the balance to the buyer. Days later, the check bounces and the seller realizes they have been scammed. But the money has long since been picked up and is not recoverable.

In another type of fraud, a fraudster contacts the seller of an automobile, asking for the vehicle identification number (VIN), putatively to check the accident record of the vehicle. However, the supposed buyer actually uses the VIN to make fake papers for a stolen car that is then sold.

COUNTERFEIT CASHIERS CHEQUE SCAM: This recent scam has been reported in Atlanta and Minneapolis. Real estate property owners placing advertisements on Craigslist or rent.com receive an e-mail response from a "24 year old in the U.K. on a research program in the United States". Addresses include john.yearwood__@yahoo.co.uk and kevin_taylor@excite.com.

The first inquiry seems legitimate. The second usually comes with request for more information, and a bogus attachment from JAPAN TOBACCO INC (who has posted information about this scam on its site) indicated the "student" has won a part time scholarship from the JT UK office. The scam comes with the third e-mail, a request for name and address so that the counterfeit cashiers cheque can be sent. The amount supposedly includes the rent and fees plus an overage for the "student's" travel.

The owner is instructed to cash the cheque and wire the difference back to the student so that they can travel to the U.S. The photos often include a young man in graduation uniform from his college. (Note: U.K. colleges are the equivalent to high schools, not universities. One photo includes a rather dumpy, depressed looking girlfriend who must be aware of the scam.) Because of the lag between the cashing and clearing of the cheque, the owner does not realize he/she has been had until their account is debited the counterfeit cost and the wired sum. Greedy owners may even decide to keep some of the cheque, only to be had themselves later. It is best not to respond to this type of e-mail and requiring background checks before cashing first rent payments

Counterfeit Postal Money Orders(Internet Fraud)

According to the FBI and postal inspectors, there has been a significant surge in the use of Counterfeit Postal Money Orders since October 2004. More than 3,700 counterfeit postal money orders (CPMOs) were intercepted by authorities from October to December 2004, and according to the USPS, the "quality" of the counterfeits is so good that ordinary consumers can easily be fooled.

On March 9, 2005, the FDIC issued an alert [1] stating that it had learned that counterfeit U.S. Postal Money Orders had been presented for payment at financial institutions.

On April 26, 2005, Tom Zeller Jr. wrote an article in The New York Times[2] regarding a surge in the quantity and quality of the forging of U.S. Postal Money Orders, and its use to commit online fraud. The article shows a picture of a man that had been corresponding with a woman in Nigeria through a dating site, and received several fake postal money orders after the woman asked him to buy a computer and mail it to her.

Who has received Counterfeit Postal Money Orders (CPMOs):

  • Small Internet retailers.
  • Classified advertisers.
  • Individuals that have been contacted through email or chat rooms by fraudsters posing as prospective social interests or business partners, and convinced to help the fraudsters unknowingly.

The penalty for making or using counterfeit postal money orders is up to ten years in jail and a US$25,000 fine.

Direct solicitations(internet fraud)

The most straightforward type of purchase scam is a buyer in another country approaching many merchants through spamming them and directly asking them if they can ship to them using credit cards to pay.

An example of such email is as follows:

From: XXXXXX XXXXXX [XXXXXXX@hotmail.com] Sent: Saturday, October 01, 2005 11:35 AM Subject: International order enquiry

Goodday Sales, This is XXXXXX XXXXXXX and I will like to place an order for some products in your store, But before I proceed with listing my requirements, I will like to know if you accept credit card and can ship internationally to Lagos, Nigeria. Could you get back to me with your website so as to forward you the list of my requirements as soon as possible. Regards, XXXXXX XXXXXX, XXXXXXXX Inc. 9999 XXXXX street, Mushin, Lagos 23401, Nigeria Telephone: 234-1-99999999, Fax: 234-1-9999999, Email: XXXXXXXXX@hotmail.com

Most likely, a few weeks or months after the merchant ships and charges the Nigerian credit card, he/she will be hit with a chargeback from the credit card processor and lose all the money.

How to Make Money Online

[edit] Payroll

A payroll tax generally refers to two kinds of taxes. Taxes which employers are required to withhold from employees' pay, also known as withholding, pay-as-you-earn (PAYE) or pay-as-you-go (PAYG) tax. These withholdings contribute to repayment of an employee's personal income tax obligation; if the payments exceed this obligation, the employee may be eligible for a tax refund or carryforward to future periods.

Other group of payroll taxes are paid from the employer's own funds, either as a fixed charge per employee or as a percentage of each employee's pay. Payroll taxes often cover government social insurance programs such as social security, health care, unemployment, and disability. These payments do not count towards income taxes of employees and employers, but are normally deductible by the employers.

Income tax

An income tax is a tax levied on the financial income of people, corporations, or other legal entities. Various income tax systems exist, with varying degrees of tax incidence. Income taxation can be progressive, proportional, or regressive. When the tax is levied on the income of companies, it is often called a corporate tax, corporate income tax, or profit tax. Individual income taxes often tax the total income of the individual (with some deductions permitted), while corporate income taxes often tax net income (the difference between gross receipts, expenses, and additional write-offs).

Full and Haig-Simons income

Full income refers to the accumulation of both, monetary and non-monetary consumption ability of any given entity, such a person or household. According to the what economist Nicholas Barr describes as the "classical definition of income:" the 1938 Haig-Simons definition, "income may be defined as the... sum of (1) the market value of rights exercised in consumption and (2) the change in the value of the store of property rights..." Since the consumption potential of non-monetary goods, such as leisure, cannot be measured, monetary income may be thought of as a proxy for full income.[1] As such, however, it is criticized for being unreliable, i.e. failing to accurately reflect affluence and that is consumption opportunities of any given agent. It omits the utility a person may derive from non-monetary income and, on a macroeconomic level, fails to accurately chart social welfare. According to Barr, "in practice money income as a proportion of total income varies widely and unsystematically. Non-observability of full-income prevent a complete characterization of the individual opportunity set, forcing us to use the unreliable yardstick of money income." On the macro-economic level, national per-capita income, increases with the consumption of activities that produce harm and omits many variables of societal health.[1]

Meaning within U.S. accountancy

In U.S. business and financial accounting, the term "income" is also synonymous with revenue; however, many people use it as shorthand for net income, which is the amount of money that a company earns after covering all of its costs.

Net income is also called net profit. It is calculated as follows:

1. The gross income or gross revenue is tabulated.
2. Where applicable, the cost of goods sold or cost of operations figure is subtracted from the gross income to yield the gross profit.
3. All expenses other than the COGS or COO are subsequently subtracted from the gross profit to yield the net profit or net income - or, if a negative number, the net loss (usually written in parentheses). More commonly, this is called "Net Income (or Loss) Before Taxes."
4. Taxes are then subtracted from the pre-tax net income to give a final net income or net profit (or net loss) figure.
5. The patented Blatt double check is then factored in.

Net income or net profit which is not expended to shareholders in the form of dividends becomes part of retained earnings.

All public companies are required to provide financial statements on a quarterly basis, and the income statement of income is one of the most important of these. Some companies also provide a more rosy financial report of their income, with pro forma reporting, or, EBITDA reporting. Pro forma income is an estimate of how much the company would have earned without including the negative effect of exceptional "one-time events", supposedly in order to show investors how much money the company would have made under normal circumstances if these exceptional, one-time events had not occurred. Critics charge that, in most cases, the "one-time events" are normal business events, such as an acquisition of another company or a write off of a cancelled project or division, and that pro forma reporting is an attempt to mislead investors by painting a rosy financial picture. Besides that, when discussing results with analysts and shareholders, CEOs and CFOs have a tendency to do even more "hypothetical accounting". EBITDA stands for "earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation", and is also criticised for being an attempt to mislead investors. Warren Buffett has criticised EBITDA reporting, famously asking, "Does management think the tooth fairy pays for capital expenditures?"

It is common for some other companies, such as real estate investment trusts, to present reports using a standard called FFO, or "Funds From Operations". Like EBITDA reporting, FFO ignores depreciation and amortization. This is widely accepted in the industry, as real estate values tend to increase rather than decrease over time, and many data sites report earnings per share data using FFO.

Income inequality

Income inequality refers to the extent to which income is distributed in an uneven manner. Within a society can be measured by various methods, including the Lorenz curve and the Gini coefficient. Economists generally agree that certain amounts of inequality are necessary and desirable but that social injustice can cause excessive inequality which leads to efficiency problems.[1]

National income, measured by statistics such as the Net National Income (NNI), measures the total income of individuals, corporations, and government in the economy. For more information see measures of national income and output

Meaning in economics and use in economic theory

In economics, factor income is the flow (that is, measured per unit of time) of revenue accruing to a person or nation from labor services and from ownership of land and capital.

In consumer theory 'income' is another name for the "budget constraint," an amount Y to be spent on different goods x and y in quantities x and y at prices Px and Py. The basic equation for this is

Y = Px • x + Py • y.
This equation implies two things. First buying one more unit of good x implies buying Px/Py less units of good y. So, Px/Py is the relative price of a unit of x as to the number of units given up in y. Second, if the price of x falls for a fixed Y, then its relative price falls. The usual hypothesis is that the quantity demanded of x would increase at the lower price, the law of demand. The generalization to more than two goods consists of modelling y as a composite good. hfgtfgfgftfvs

The theoretical generalization to more than one period is a multi-period wealth and income constraint. For example the same person can gain more productive skills or acquire more productive income-earning assets to earn a higher income. In the multi-period case, something might also happen to the economy beyond the control of the individual to reduce (or increase) the flow of income. Changing measured income and its relation to consumption over time might be modeled accordingly, such as in the permanent income hypothesis.

Income

Income, refers to the expenditures gained by an individual during a particular period of time, and is most often expressed in fiscal terms. However, for households and individuals, "income is the sum of all the wages, salaries, profits, interests payments, rents and other forms of earnings received... in a given period of time." For firms, income generally refers to net-profit: what remains of revenue after expenses have been subtracted. In the field of public economics, it may refer to the accumulation of both monetary and non-monetary consumption ability, the former being used as a proxy for total income.

The International Accounting Standards Board uses this definition:

"Income is increases in economic benefits during the accounting period in the form of inflows or enhancements of assets or decreases of liabilities that result in increases in equity, other than those relating to contributions from equity participants." [F.70] (IFRS Framework)

My lot is the best for earn

Hello Charlenmendoza,

Don't worry; it's had me a little confused too. Obviously, being more active on MyLot helps increase your revenue, just like any other site (hah-otherwise no one would really blog for them.:D). The trick is to make sure that your discussions aren't taken down, or you are not credited your deserved amount. Also, make sure that you leave fairly descriptive and long responses to a discussion, as simply a 2 liner reaps nothing more than 1-2 cents I've heard.

It may go up and down unexpectedly; occasionally MyLot might be experiencing server problems or other, so not to worry! They'll (meaning your profits) even out eventually.

Hope that helps; if you have any other questions, just send me a friend invite and a message, and I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability.

See you around!

Easy Adder Training (Part 1)

Mylot does not have a set rate for anything. First of all the more you respond to discussions the more earnings you will get. I think i get the most earnings from responding to others discussions they have started. You can get a good amount for starting discussions also only if people are responding to them. If you start a discussion and you have no response then you wont get any earnings for that one at all. Try to respond to at least 20 to 30 posts a day and you will see a big increase in your earnings. Also try to respond with more than 5 lines in each post and that will e a big help to. Enjoy Mylotting

Confused with the earning process

I joined my lot, few days ago ( i think its 4 days ago) and i am really confused with the earning process. The 2nd day, i see $0.02 in my earnings, then the 3rd day, i saw $0.54, so i thought that if i reply more from discussions and i start more discussion, i will earn bigger than the 3rd day. so yesterday, i created more new discussion and there are lots of people also reply from my discussion. But when i open my mylot.com, my earnings indicate $0.056, it means that i only got $.02 from yesterday. How does mylot.com really works. lots of people will tell me not to mind my earnings just post, discuss, and comment. But i really want to know how can i have bigger earnings just like the other. But mind you, i really enjoy mylot.com. Now i can start my writing ability, he he he. I really love to write (though im not really good at it, but they said practice makes it perfect). I want to share whats in my mind and also i consider this my diary/blogs and everything

The difference between activity and profitability

There is a distinction to be made between activity and profitability: these terms do not cover the same aspects of reality and are not interchangeable. Here are some definitions:

  • activity is the quantitative aspect and describes the amount of time spent in each category of activities against the available time.
  • profitability is the qualitative aspect and describes the amount of revenue billed against a defined target.

To gain a better understanding of the difference, consider the following examples:

  • example 1: a team member spent 100% of his/her time at pre-sales tasks during a given billing period. While these tasks are important for future revenue generation, they do not bring in any direct, immediate revenue. Thus, we can say that:
    • the team member has had a 100% activity rate,
    • but a he/she has had a 0% profitability: the team member has not billed anything.
  • example 2: another team member, highly qualified, received a short assignment for which he was able to command a hefty price per hour, say twice the regular price. While the team member worked only 50% of his time, he was able to invoice it as if he had worked 100%. Thus, we can say that:
    • the team member has only had a 50% activity rate,
    • but a he has had a 100% profitability.

Of course, there is a correlation between activity and profitability but as demonstrated the two are not interchangeable and both need to be measured to understand the situation of a team: measuring only one and not the other would give a partial, inaccurate representation of the reality.

the revenue earning and recognition process

Going into further details, it is important to know about the revenue earning and recognition process.
The revenue earning and recognition process of delivery teams is characterized by installments paid in advance, accrued delivery expenses and un-earned revenues. Companies recognize service contract revenues using the percentage-of-completion method, based primarily on contract costs incurred to date compared with total estimated contract costs. When the contracts are of relatively short duration (weeks or months), as is usually the case in ICT, the accounting process can be simplified as described on the figure:

revenue earning process_01

The hypothesis used for this graph is a payment agreement in thirds:

  1. a third of the total amount of services at the order,
  2. a third at a defined milestone during the delivery of the project,
  3. a third at the project hand-over to the customer.

The graph shows that revenue is earned only after services are delivered. As a consequence, procrastination and delays have a huge impact on the accounting side:

  • delaying projects,
  • not knowing where they stand within their delivery cycle,
  • neglecting to properly finish them,
  • not handing them over to the customer along with the last bill

all can have a profound impact on cash flow and the ability of the company to pay its charges. Up to 2 thirds of the service amount can be waiting for invoicing at the end of a project. Worse: in some structures, or in some specific cases, the total amount of services is not even billed before the project is 100% completed. As this can put a serious strain on the company’s finances, everyone in a team has to be aware of the accounting mechanisms and the consequences of not delivering a project in time. Let me emphasis this statement:

How are you going to make money? By changing your relationship with your community

I get the same question again and again as I explain our innovation efforts at Gazette Communications: How are you going to make money doing that?

When I explained our plans to separate content from product, people could see that we were moving to an organization built for the future rather than the past. But they still asked: How do you monetize that? (Yes, even journalists have started using the M-word.)

I answer in my Blueprint for the Complete Community Connection, published this week on my blog: We need to move beyond advertising.

Harvard Business Professor Clayton Christensen, the foremost authority on disruptive innovation, says established businesses take two approaches when faced with disruptive technology: They ignore it or they try to cram their existing model into the new opportunity. The newspaper industry did both. When we realized we couldn't ignore the Internet any longer, we tried to cram our newspapers into our websites.

South Los Angeles community news website offers lessons for all

By William Celis, April 29, 2009

A century ago, The New York Times routinely ran short items on its inside pages about church socials, fund-raising efforts by community groups, programs at public schools. These news nuggets defined the robust neighborhoods of Manhattan and the city's four other boroughs. Though eventually lost as the daily emphasized foreign and national news, these news blurbs from neighborhood are in vogue again a century later, this time on hyperlocal news websites.

These intensely local news sites, now firmly established on the emerging journalism landscape, offer readers more than news about chicken dinners and church functions, of course. Many of them devote energy and money to produce meaningful journalism from and about under covered urban neighborhoods and isolated rural communities. These places are not the easiest communities to write about; distrust of the media runs high, especially in urban communities of color. But enhanced coverage of urban, working-class neighborhoods of color -- long ignored by mainstream media -- is one of the emerging trends of hyper local news sites, including the new USC Annenberg School for Communication news site, Intersections: The South Los Angeles Reporting Project, recent winners of a $25,000 grant from the J-Lab: The Institute for Interactive Journalism through its New Voices program, a community news initiative funded by the Knight Foundation

Wanted: Experienced, passionate citizens for hyperlocal sites: Earn $$$ from your home!

The approximately one million people who live in the 13 communities in suburban Washington, D.C., Northwest Chicago and the Bay Area that Backfence tried, but failed, to serve spend about $13 billion annually shopping and dining out. That's right – $13 billion. To reach them, local online advertisers spend $28 million, based on Borrell's 2007 numbers. Of course, established Internet sites in those communities – particularly ones run by well-established metro and smaller newspapers – gobble up most of that $28 million. But what about the ad revenue crumbs that fall from the table?

Backfence shrewdly positioned itself amid all that affluence, but didn't capitalize on it. But couldn't a network of grassroots sites that actually connected with their communities pick up a small fraction of that $28 million by year two or three? How about 6 percent? That would be a little more than $1.6 million. Continuing my back-of-the-envelope math, that splits down to about $750,000 for Backfence's seven communities in the Maryland and Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, and $425,000 for the three communities in Northwest Chicago and the same for the three in the Bay Area.

By my estimates, the three clusters of sites could break even and maybe squeeze out a modest profit – about $100,000 – from $1.6 million ad revenue (display and paid search).

Here are the estimated expense numbers for each cluster:

  • Publisher: $60,000
  • Content manager, $50,000
  • Two sales reps: $40,000 each (in base salary and commissions that would go higher with bonuses based on sales that top goals)
  • Tech manager: $20,000 share of total cost
  • Staff fringes and employer taxes: $40,000
  • Citizen contributors: $110,000 or $250,000 for $1,000 monthly stipends, with the higher amount for the seven-community metro Washington cluster
  • Office rent and expenses: Up to $25,000 (depending on cluster size)
  • Computers: $10,000
  • Other (including promotion, phones): Up to $50,000 (depending on cluster size)

All this, multiplied by three clusters, adds up to slightly less than $1.5 million. Green-eye-shade folks may argue with some of my cost estimates. I agree a content manager – a good one – is worth more than $50,000. But if the compensation included stock options, wouldn't there be a lot of talented Internet editors – ones with a passion for building grassroots sites – who would be eager to take the plunge?

Success with even a modest budget would hinge on whether the sites succeeded in connecting with their communities and producing content that users found generally interesting, sometimes significant and occasionally indispensable.

It would also depend on a "feet-meet-the-street" advertising staff that could sell strong visitor/page-view numbers to local and regional advertisers who, for good reason, have been resistant to buying display space on grassroots sites.

The Get Paid to Read Email Section

By far the BIGGEST section on the site. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of paid email programs around. Getting Paid to Read your Email is by far one of the more popular and successful ways at the moment, to earn some extra cash online.

In this section we review, rate and give basic information about the paid email program in question, such as the minimum payout threshold you will have to reach before you get paid, how many levels or referrals you can earn from, what payment methods they use, and so on.
Like most 'get paid' companies online there are some great, and not so great programs around, sometimes its a matter of trail and error to see which programs are going to suit you best.
If you want to maximise your earnings with these sites, make you sure you stay active and read any paid email they send you on a regular basis. Also, many Paid Email programs will offer Get Paid to Click and Get Paid to Sign Up for offers sections, from which you can earn a little more from. You can usually access these extra earning opportunities what they may have available from your Member Area when you sign up.

Many also offer varying other things, like games you can play, autosurfers and so on. If your a newbie to paid email a great place to start, is the Top 20 paid email programs listed below.

Where to Start:

In the current economic climate we're often asked about the quickest way to make a little extra cash online - remember there is no such thing as 'get rich quick', but stick with it and you will earn a little extra cash. Below are some of our current favourite programs from selected categories including traffic exchanges which are great for some free advertising:

And a Couple of Points to Remember:

1. Don't expect to get rich quick.... life isn't that easy, and it just doesn't happen!

2. You have nothing to lose but time.... and besides it really can be fun, especially paid survey and games sites!

3. If a program sounds to good to be true, it usually is, so avoid them!

4. Always check out the programs' Terms of Service and Frequently Asked Questions, you will find most of the answers here to what a program is offering and how they will pay you.

5. If your planning to work from home, don't rely on it as a main source of income. Mix it up with other online activities. Check out our Homeworking Section for other ideas.

6. Be careful what you spend your cash on.. e.g for upgraded memberships, make sure you are going to get a return on what you spend... that's if you really want to part with any cash in the first place!!

7. Finally, be persistent, don't give up after a week or two, like everything else the more time and effort you put in, the more rewards you will get out of it!

So go take a look around this site and see if there are any companies you might be interested in, we review every single site we list. Click on the link, sign up and make some money...... don't ya just love the internet - but most importantly don't take it too seriously and have fun!!

Please check out our General Info page if you would like a little further information, or if you would like to join our Mailing List. We do not believe in clogging up your inbox, so the Newsletter is sent only around once or twice per month or when there are any new program reviews we think you may be interested in!

A brief rundown on some of our Current Favourite Sites:

Here is our selection of what we consider to be some of the better earning programs currently around; For all the latest news and programs visit our new Blog!

Bidvertiser is a get paid per click program. If you have a website or blog, you can display ads. When people come to your site and click on one of these ads you will get paid. You earn varying amounts per click, but the good thing about this program, unlike say Google Adsense where their minimum payout is $100, Bidvertiser offer a minimum payout of only $10. With more and more people running their own website's and blog's, these kind of programs really are a good source for earning a little extra cash.

GlobalTestMarket is an online paid survey site. We get a good handful of surveys every week. They offer points for completing surveys but these points are exchangeable for cash.

AdPaid is has been our favourite paid email program for some time now. We're sure many of you have seen the hundreds of this type of program around on the internet. But this one, in our opinion is by far one of the best. Has a $3 minimum payout threshold which is very easy to reach, with or without a downline

And so if your new to all this, here's a brief overview as to how it all works....

Yep, you can actually get paid from companies for doing various things on the internet, such as read email, surf, take surveys, write reviews and so on. This site by no means represents the many companies out there, only a selection. I know........ so you're asking what's the deal, why on earth do these companies want to pay us? Well simply put, advertisers are increasingly using the internet to market their products/services and the companies share the money they make with their members.

How much you make will depend on how hard you push it, this is not a 'get rich quick' thing, you have to be persistent. The more people that you refer to these sites and the more regular that you use their services, the more you make.

All companies will have different specifications, like with the paid to surf programs you are more than likely required to download software to enable you to see the ads that they are going to pay you to view. Paid to Read Email programs will send you lots of emails so having extra email accounts is essential. Check out the FAQ sections of the different sites if you have any queries. Most companies also have a minimum payment amount which you have to reach before they will send you a payment. The odd one or two companies however may pay monthly regardless of what amount you have earned, again check out the site in question for details.

Most companies are US based, but not all, we list programs from the UK, Europe, Australia among others. Many though, will only make payments in US dollars, there are many online payment services around these days, click on the link below to see them, and most will also pay via cheque. Cheques are easily exchangeable at the bank, some banks may make a small charge, others won't. Click here to see some of the Online Payment Options!!

What's on the site & ways to earn online!

Now don't get us wrong, your not going to end up a millionaire, or 'get rich quick', because these aren't the kind of programs we list here on The Earn from the Internet Site. But you will certainly find something on the site where you can earn, or even win, a little extra spending money - and we all know any extra cash from time to time is always handy!

There are many various ways around to earn a little extra cash online - and have a little fun whilst your at it! You can get paid to read email (which is by far our biggest section!), take surveys, write reviews, surf, make searches, visit websites, click on banners or links, sign up for offers, play games and even chat.

There are also sites that allow you to surf for free website traffic if you have your own site/affiliate opportunity etc, that may need some extra promotion or hits. You can even earn some cash by affiliating with advertisers looking for people to sell their product or opportunity.

We also have a section which aims to give you some ideas of where to find advice if your looking to work from home and/or freelance. We offer some simple tips and hopefully, useful links.

For those of you not familiar with the world of making a little extra cash via the internet, below we have compiled a short overview which gives a bit more of an insight as to how it all works. So please take the time to have a look around. Our site is packed with reviews and information of the various programs you can earn and get paid from. Remember the site is an ever growing resource, so be sure to check back on us from time to time, besides we really would like to see you again!!

Best places to write and earn.

If writing is your passion then it can be an earning source. However, you are not going to be a rich in a night. All you need is dedication, research and hard work to contribute some important and interesting articles that can attract viewers. I am going to mention some sites(in brief) where you can be benefitted with your fantastic hobby(writing).

1) PRINTANDPOST: This is a community where you will earn 100% adsense revenue share. It is a fantastic opportunity. There are many categories,so it is flexible.Choose a topic and write your favourite things that you are familiar with. All you will need is adsense publisher id(this is an option to include your publisher id). Everytime visitors reads your article you will earn from adsense.

2)CIAO: Ciao is a site where you will earn from reviewing the products listed in their site.Their pay rate was 1 USD before 5th of november. The rate has been reduced to 25 cent per review. From my point of view it is not a bad rate for a review of 120 words(minimum). If you can write some really good reviews then you are going to earn some extra from views you get.

3)MYLOT: This is a unique place. This is my favourite place. The best place to earn and make friends. You will earn between 2 to 6 cents per post and if you post some quality postings then there is a possibilty to earn 1 USD per post. All it depends on the quality but not quantity.

The programs I mentioned above are the best and I have good experience with these sites. They are not scams they 100% genuine.

Nelsok.com Services Are Down.

Our Hosting provided has gone bankrupt and at this time the storage devices are not accessable.

We have decided not to pursue a new hosting envirnoment for nelsok.com. We have made the decision to offer for sale the source files and database structure which allowed nelsok to succesfully run for the last 3 years.

We will be selling the source for $300 to anyone who wants to purchase or if we receive an offer of $6000 we will no longer sell the source and that buyer could be the only person who owns the source.

The nelsok source code can be used to create your own video site like nelsok, youtube, dailymotion or any of the other popular video hosting sites. The are many features along with a robust admin panel.

The source is custom coded and uses ffmpeg, smarty, php, and mysql. It is recommended that you have knowledge of these before attempting to create your site, or if you just want to learn that is fine as well.

How much could you make if you only managed to receive 20 clicks per day?

Well, that all depends on how much you got paid for each click...but let's just say that you received only Rs..40/- for each click.

You would make Rs. 800/- per day (or Rs. 24,000/- per month)!

Imagine what your income figure would be if the number of clicks and the amount paid per click would be higher!
